Unsung Heroes of the Information Age

Unsung Heroes of the Information Age

In a world where technology increasingly takes centre stage, the stories we often hear revolve around the entrepreneurs who harness its power for pro8it. We're all familiar with the tales of plucky start-ups, launching their businesses from humble garages but what about the unsung heroes who laid the foundations, without which these businesses wouldn’t exist? Their stories are largely untold.

The entrepreneurs we worship, the Job’s, Musk’s and Zuckerberg’s, are often from similar backgrounds. Yet, those who laid the groundwork upon which these tech titans built their empires hail from a diverse spectrum, each with their own unique experiences and perspectives. This shouldn’t surprise us, innovation thrives when diverse viewpoints, resilience, and the ability to overcome adversity intersect.

Many of the pioneers who shaped our connected world did so without any expectation of fame or personal gain. Unsung Heroes of the Information Age pays tribute to these sel8less trailblazers and celebrates the original spirit of the Information Age - a spirit characterised by openness, generosity, and collaboration. Long may it continue.

Our first comic is the story of Alan Emtage, the Barbados-born inventor of the search engine. Our second is the story of Lynn Conway, the transgender activist who pioneered microchip design. Both are based on first-hand conversations with the protagonists themselves.

Information is power. Some chose to exploit it, while others set it free. It's the battle at the heart of the internet. Unsung Heroes of the Information Age adds balance to the historical record, telling the stories of those who refused to be marginalised.
